Prime Minister Takes Office Sir Robert von Lothringen took office as Prime Minister of the Empire of Thrace yesterday following his appointment to the office by the Emperor. The new Prime Minister will seek to build and strengthen the Empire for all it's citizens and to establish new relations with other existing micronations. Von Lothringen also seeks to strengthen and broaden the economy of the Empire. Prime Minister von Lothringen is a strong supporter of the constitutional monarchy yet at the same time he wishes to strengthen the freedoms and rights of the citizens of Thrace. Although he is against the establishment of a Republic the Prime Minister believes that changes in the Empire can be made constitutionally to the satisfaction of the majority of Thracian citizens while at the same time maintaining the present monarchy and form of government. Von Lothringen comes to the office of Prime Minister with much knowledge of government administration and an extensive military background. He has a reputation for getting things done and for his bluntness. The new Prime Minister says that he does not believe in beating around the bush. "People need to know where one stands," said von Lothringen. The Prime Minister welcomes direct communications with government officials and citizens of the Empire. "Issues facing us must be addressed and resolved in the best possible way," said von Lothringen. "I ask all citizens of Thrace to unite behind the Emperor so that we can get on with the business at hand and make Thrace into a great nation for a great and noble people." Prime Minster von Lothringen asks that any citizen bring issues to him directly so that the welfare of the nation can be secured for the future.

Prime Minister Speaks on Democracy !! During a press interview today Thracian Prime Minister Sir Baron Robert von Lothringen spoke on issues concerning democracy. The Prime Minister said, "All around the world we see dictatorships and governments that are not representative of the people falling. Those governments which are dictatorial and refuse to change are being overthrown because people in the 21st Century want more freedoms and want to be more involved in the futures of their own nations." Von Lothringen continued on saying, "Nations which are based on Constitutions and the rule of Law are finding that they are having to amend their Constitutions so that their governments become more democratic." When asked how a Monarchy can become more democratic, von Lothringen replied, "Constitutional monarchies are acceptable to many people today. Absolute monarchies are not! A monarchy based on a Constitution is far more democratic than those that are not. This is so because in a Constitutional Monarchy people have some say so in their government whereas in absolute monarchies or dictatorships the people have no say so. Democratic processes and the principles of democracy can be incorporated into Constitutional Monarchies by simply amending a nation's Constitution. This is done is peaceful and civilized ways and without citizen unrest or revolution." The Prime Minister was asked if he thought monarchies were still relevant for the 21st Century. Von Lothringen replied, "I think monarchs provide a symbol of continuity. They provide a link between the past and future of a nation. They preserve a continuity in leadership and ongoing just government. Monarchs are public symbols in which many people today still take pride in. I think it important that nations preserve that symbol." When question by reporters about his nation's recent referendum calling for a Republic, von Lothringen stated, "The referendum vote was very close with the majority in favor of continuation of the Monarchy. However, there were a significant number of votes in the referendum calling for the establishment of a Republic in Thrace. This issue must continue to be addressed and the citizens of Thrace must unite behind the continued Monarchy. I do not want to see Thrace divided on this issue or any other issue. In the coming weeks I will be addressing some of the issues of concern by those who were calling for a Republic." "Thrace," said the Prime Minister, "is not going to be a Republic. The Monarchy is going to continue. However, I think some people are wanting broader freedoms and broader democracy in Thrace. We can address this issue through our existing Constitution. There is no need for citizen unrest or revolt!" One reporter accused Thrace of being nothing more than an absolute monarchy hidden behind a weak Constitution. In response von Lothringen said, "I do not think Thrace is ruled by an absolute Monarch. I think our Emperor wants a democratic form of government while at the same time he wants to preserve the Monarchy. I do not think His Majesty has any desire to rule as an absolute monarch! I also do not believe that we have a weak Constitution. In fact, Thrace has a very good and strong Constitution! One that reflects the nations desire for Constitutional Monarchy. To say that we have a weak Constitution and that Thrace is nothing more than an absolute monarchy is simply wrong and inaccurate." When questioned as to what changes he foresees in Thrace in the coming future, von Lothringen said, "Personally, I would like to see elections in our nation in the future rather than appointments. Elections give people a greater sense of democracy and makes people feel more involved in their government and nation's future. However, in order to have elections citizens MUST get involved in Thrace and in other nations. Without citizen involvement and participation there can be no elections because no one will be running for the elected offices." Towards the end of the press conference with international reporters, von Lothringen was asked about his own recent appointment as Prime Minister of Thrace. In response, the Prime Minister stated, "I was appointed by our Emperor and I am honored by this appointment. I plan to do my best as Prime Minister. In the coming future I may request a public vote of confidence be held so that the people of Thrace can either decide to support me as Prime Minister or not. I believe in the democratic processes of government and I believe in Constitutional Monarchy as one of the best forms of government. People should have a say so in who leads them on the public official level. If we call for a vote of confidence and I do not have the support of the people of Thrace, the Emperor and Monarchy will still continue no matter what. But, I as Prime Minister also wish the support of my people so I am considering calling for a national vote of confidence in me as Prime Minister. This is a matter that I plan to further discuss with His Majesty and other present government officials in the Empire."

Prime Minister Proposes Costitutional Change !! The Prime Minister today proposed changes to the Constitution regarding Parliament. You can find the proposal and the PM's comments on the forum under the "Parliament" section. Prime Minister von Lothringen released a statement regarding the proposal saying: Above are changes in the Constitution my office is making regarding Parliament. I believe these proposed changes will give a better expression of democratic processes while preserving the integrity of the Monarchy and Empire. I sincerely believe that a people must possess the right and means to elect representatives in their government under a Constitutional Monarchy. If a peoples come to feel that they are not heard and that they have no representation in the government process then it usually leads to discouragement, civil unrest, and may even lead to revolution. Any government must be just and fair I believe. The common citizens must have a voice in their government and that voice must be heard and responded to by those in government who hold power. A Constitutional Monarchy is a form of government which balances the power of the Crown with the power of the People through their elected representatives in Parliament. This is the form of government our nation presently has, a Constitutional Monarchy. The present Constitution establishes only one House (unicameral) of Parliament yet people desire two Houses, a House of Lords and a House of Deputies. People want a bicameral Parliament and, therefore, our Constitution must be amended and changed to reflect and establish a Parliament with two Houses. I hope to gain the Crown and the people's support on the above proposed changes in the Constitution regarding Parliament. I believe that these proposed changes will make for a more just and equal government in which all people will have a voice through their Representatives.

Air Force Proposal by PM The Prime Minister's office has presented a proposal to the Emperor for increasing the number of military aircraft for the Imperial Air Force. The proposal would greatly increase the number of military aircraft for the Air Force from 18 current aircraft to a 50 future aircraft. The Defense Ministry says that this increase in fighter/defense aircraft is needed for the Imperial Air Force in order to modernize the AF and make it into more of a military defense unit. Prime Minister/Defense Minister Baron von Lothringen said that the military branches of the Empire must be modernized and given the best equipment possible if they are to defend the Empire and insure the security of it's citizens and our nation's future. "Sadly, we do not live in a world of total peace," said von Lothringen. "There are nations who thrive on aggression and war. Thrace must be sure that we have adequate defenses to protect ourselves should we be attacked by an aggressor nation. If we do not have an appropriate military with modern equipment then the future of the Empire cannot be secured." The Air Force equipment proposal has been sent to the Emperor for consideration.

I encourage all citizens to read the Emperor's Imperial Decree #21. This decree focuses on counter-terrorism and I fully support HRH in this decree. It is important that we protect our nations and not allow terrorists to gain footholds anywhere in any nation. These people MUST be put out of business. They are killers pure and simple I believe and they serve no good purpose.
