As a member of Parliament I would like to ask our citizens just where they would like to go with our micronation in the future. I'd like to know what our citizens think should be our short and long term goals. As a member of Parliament I feel that we represent the people and we must, therefore, hear from the people.
Thrace poses a somewhat unusual enigma in my view. We have many citizens yet we have few active citizens. There seems to be a general lethargy among us as Duke Zarev recently pointed out in his posts. We claim we are a democracy but are we? A democracy requires the involvement and activity of its citizens. If the citizens refuse to be active or participate in government then such a "democracy" will not last for long. I'm surprised Thrace's "democracy" has lasted this long, honestly.
We seem to have a few good discussions and then suddenly everyone returns to their lethargy and nonparticipation. Why? We must stay active don't you think? We must have a real democracy don't you think?
I do not agree with some of the ways our Imperial Government is set up. For instance, I do not agree with the fact that Ministers of government are also members of Parliament but what choice is there? If citizens would get active and stay active then we could have a real democratic Parliament without government ministers. But that seems NOT possible right now.
We say we are a Constitutional Monarchy but, in fact, we are closer to being an Absolute Monarchy. In a Constitutional Monarchy the sovereign is just a figurehead and the real power rests in the Parliament, Prime Minister, and the Cabinet. Yet, this is not the way it works in Thrace. Why not? Because of LACK of involvement on the part of our many citizens.
I hope you will post your comments and ideas hear. We need to set a clear and solid course for our micronation and WE ALL NEED to be a part of steering that future course.
Thank you!
