I heard that yesterday Obama accepted help from 10 other nations to clean up the spill. It is now day 71. I fail to see what it took him so long to accept help.

UPDATE 07-05-2010 9:13 a.m. - 5 G.M.T.
The cost of oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has increased for British Petroleum (BP) to a total of U.S. $ 3,120 million, the company said.
This amount includes the cost of the spill containment and cleanup of the oil slick, plus costs to drill two wells to stop the overflow of oil output. It also takes into account the payments of compensation by $ 147 million to some of those affected by the disaster.
The bill far exceeds U.S. $ 2,650 reported last week, BP said that the total bill could be much higher.
The British pretrolera have said 44 500 people working on the spill, nearly 5,000 more than seven days ago, but confirmed that efforts to collect oil from the sea surface was temporarily discontinued due to Hurricane Alex, which crossed the region.
Half of the market value
According to the BBC correspondent in Texas, David Shukman, the control center of the crisis there are 500 employees performing 24 hours, facing storms, criticisms, demands and rising costs.
Meanwhile, BP shares opened with a rise of 0.8% in the stock market in London, but still below half the value they had before the disaster.
Still uncertainty among investors about the possible financial impact of the spill and some predict that the cost may be thousands of millions more.
The collapse in the price of BP has sparked speculation about a sale of the company propable. For the oil giant, this is a tense and threatening times, concludes Shukman.

UPDATE 07-12-2010 9.46 A.M. (-5 G.M.T.)
Twenty-four hours after the company British Petroleum (BP) placed the new leadership to contain the oil spill that flows into a well over a thousand 500 meters deep in the Gulf of Mexico, yesterday the British company began testing the new leadership of 70 tons, which will determine whether you can stop the flow of freshly spilled oil and prevent any water for the first time in nearly three months.
Upon the expiry of 86 days since the tragedy began, BP noted in a statement that if the new device works effectively, the cover should contain all the oil or at least allow it to be caught and sent vessels to the surface.
This could be the first time since the well was damaged and that manages to stop the leak, even temporarily.
VALVES. On the tests with the new dome, the official U.S. Coast Guard that oversees the cleaning of oil in the Gulf of Mexico, Admiral Thad Allen, said that these first trials could last from six to 48 hours, time that BP plans to close in stages three valves of the new dome 5.5 meters tall and 68 kilos of weight, to see if the oil stops flowing or otherwise escapes from the well.
TIME. Allen noted that this solution is only temporary, but represents the best hope so far to stop the oil spill on the marine ecosystem.
BP expects to achieve in the tests to stop the flow of oil into the ocean, but remained cautious about the success of the system.
Footage broadcast by an underwater camera showed how the pipe was laid open the new campaign, which consists of a series of valves and tubes designed to control the flow of oil

The drain of the Gulf of Mexico yields, but where is all the oil?
NEW ORLEANS, USA - With the escape of oil from the Gulf of Mexico under control, care of the problem moves to the clean sea surface and the question on everyone's lips is: Where did all the oil was shed for three months?
For three long months, a large oil spill threatened the coasts of Louisiana and other southern states in the U.S., while BP used all possible methods to stop the polluting exhaust.
A plug flow stopped on 15 July after the release of between 2.8 and 4.5 million barrels in the Gulf. Just a quarter of that amount was captured by BP in container ships and other collection systems.
But thanks to the frantic efforts to collect and burn the oil on the surface, recovered about 132 million liters of a mixture of oil and water and there were 411 fires, the real challenge now is to find traces of oil to clean.
Tens of reconnaissance planes constantly out of Florida and Texas to locate oil stains, while flat-bottomed boat in the swamps looking for the remains larger than the tide, which are struggling to biodegrade.
"What we have are hundreds of thousands of oil slicks and the challenge is to find out where they are right now, because they are dispersed over a large area," said the head of the operation to stem the tide of U.S. government, Thad Allen.
Allen said that it "may be incorrect of me to call them spots. What we are seeing are mats, units with volume, low concentrations, very difficult to detect."
"What we try to find out is where is all the oil and what we can do about it," he added.
The figures speak for themselves. Before putting the funnel to cover the escape of the damaged well was collected about 25,000 bpd of a dense and concentrated oil spill near the well area.
When Tropical Storm Bonnie came last week, the recovery decreased to a negligible 56 barrels per day, raising the question of what to do with the 800 ships collectors, many of them driven by angry fishermen.
About where the oil ended up that was not collected or burned, opinions vary: some experts say that microbes and other elements of the ocean so decomposed naturally, while others fear it may be deposited without being detected in the deep Gulf .
Just weeks ago, the oil spill was an unstoppable force that it could not be kept at distance from the coast and slowly choked the helpless pelicans. Now the oil is an elusive enemy that must be reached.
The latest newsletter of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA, for its acronym in English) on the oil spots identified only seven of relative oil floating on the sea surface.
The next stage will mainly work on a thorough assessment of damage caused by oil on the banks. About 1027 km of coastline were contaminated by oil.
The cleaning of beaches will require minimal efforts, but the elimination of wetlands will crude major headaches for authorities.
Ed Owens geologist hired by BP to help organize security for the costs, rejects any alarmism. On Monday estimated that wetlands, home to a varied fauna, will recover in a few months because they just entered a "low volume" of oil.

We hope all is over, at least the biggest threat. Big lesson for politicians and technologists.

08/08/2010 They manage to completely seal the well of BP BP workers and cement slurry pumped into the well so damaged, seal it permanently.
Pressure tests on the cement plug injected into the throat of the well show that it is solid in place, according to British Petroleum.
While workers are preparing for the final step in drilling a relief well, pumped more than the quantities of mud and cement to seal it well so definitely broken.
It is expected that next week both wells intersect, according to spokesmen for BP. The company did not say if the workers had already begun to do the drilling.
