Baja California Earthquake of 6.9 Richter scale Was presented at 3:40 pm, about 30 miles southeast of Mexicali
A strong earthquake centered south of the border between Mexico and the United States shook the skyscrapers of downtown Los Angeles and San Diego and was felt throughout southern California and Arizona.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck on Sunday Baja California, Mexico, at 3:40 pm, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) southeast of Mexicali, an area that has been 3.0 magnitude earthquakes throughout the week.
The quake shook buildings in the western part of Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley, disrupting Easter dinner for many families. Chandeliers rocked and wine into the glasses shook.
The quake was felt as far away Phoenix, Arizona.
There were no initial reports of damage to the San Diego area, a border town with Mexico.

A strong earthquake centered south of the border between Mexico and the United States shook the skyscrapers of downtown Los Angeles and San Diego and was felt throughout southern California and Arizona.
Later, Notimex reported that the Earthquake Information Center in the United States Geological Survey today raised to 7.2 on the Richter scale, the magnitude of the earthquake that rocked today the Mexican states of Baja California and California American. Previously, the agency had issued a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 degrees on the Richter scale.
The quake occurred at 15:40 hours of Baja California (Mexico City 17:40) on Sunday about 26 miles southwest of the municipality of Guadalupe Victoria, Baja California, 60 miles south-southeast of Mexicali and about 173 km east southeast of Tijuana.
Since the earthquake occurred, the Earthquake Information Center reported 10 aftershocks, the strongest of 5.4 degrees Richter.
The quake toppled power poles and telephone and the shelves in the stores of Tijuana and Mexicali and cities in southern California and Arizona.
The national director of the Federal Electricity Commission (FEC) in Mexico, Alfredo Elias Ayub said the earthquake hit Baja California transmission lines to Mexicali as the city is without electricity.
Elias Ayub said in a message via Twitter that "we are assessing damage and keep them informed."

About 60 thousand hectares of crops affected, the overflow channels Reform and Delta, which flooded 60 communities, and lack of power at rural area of Valle de Mexicali, are part of the preliminary count of damage left by the earthquake of 7.2 degrees on the Richter scale in northern Baja California.
Urban infrastructure was affected by cracks and bubbling raised in homes and roads flooded roadways. We report structural damage public and private buildings, most notably the building of federal Civic Center, General Hospital .

The secretary of Agricultural Development, Antonio Rodríguez Hernández, reported that 60 thousand hectares were affected mainly wheat, alfalfa, safflower and cotton.
He said they had affectations in the Delta channels and Reform in the Mexicali Valley, which caused heavy flooding of water.

In fact the quake was in Mexican territory (to the north, border with the United States of America), was stronger than that of Haiti, was less lethal, on the soundness of the constructions and economic conditions in the border region.
