The First Summit of Mexico and Caricom lists several challenges
PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Quintana Roo .- President Felipe Calderón I inaugurated yesterday the Mexico-CARICOM Summit, which called its members together to respond "strong and coordinated" against organized crime and eliminate areas of impunity. Calderon enlisted issues. Firstly to support the Haitian people who gave condolences. Requested work together to achieve a speedy recovery, but "the new development in Haiti will require a joint effort."
For recreation, Calderon called their representatives to identify their needs for business, trade and investment promotion. A second theme is to strengthen economic relations, increase trade, because trade in 10 years has doubled, but you can still do more with increased trade. He proposed a meeting of experts for two years at least double the current trade.
In the protection and promotion of tourism in the Caribbean, requested to make tourism a common axis and raised communications and transport schemes.
In the struggle for security, said that organized crime is transnational and growing threat to the wellbeing of the region.
"We should give a strong, coordinated" to confront criminal organizations and eliminate areas of impunity.
Finally, global warming, which directly affects the Caribbean, perhaps much more than elsewhere. Calderón emphasized the destruction of beaches and droughts that have had several people, or floods, as in Haiti. The threat to settled areas in sea areas required to drive unit commitments to curb environmental degradation.
He also recalled that in December, Mexico will host COP 16 against climate change, requested space to this subject and offered to do everything possible to host Mexico to become a mouthpiece for the views and priorities of the Caribbean people. On behalf of all Mexicans gave the warmest welcome to the presidents and heads of state members of CARICOM and stressed that this is an opportunity to strengthen ties between the nations of the region. "We are determined in my government to work together with you to address the challenges and opportunities."
Participate in Caricom Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, the territory of Montse and Mexico.
These two acts in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
One is the formation of a Latin American organization which are not included in North America and Canada.
And another is the Mexico meeting with CARICOM.
